[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]ସଂସ୍କୃତ - ବିଶେଷ୍ୟ - ପୁଲିଙ୍ଗ - (ସମ୍+ଶପ୍ତ=ଶପଥ କରିଥିବା, ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା କରିଥିବା+କ; ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଶପଥ କରିଥିବାଯୋଗୁଁ ଯେ ସଂଗ୍ରାମରୁ ଅପରାଙ୍ମୁଖ ବା ଅପଳାୟମାନ ଅଟେ)
[ସମ୍ପାଦନା]- ୧. ଯେଉଁ ଯୋଦ୍ଧା ଯୁଦ୍ଧଭୂମିରୁ ପଳାଇବ ନାହିଁ ବୋଲି ଶପଥ କରିଥାଏ —୧. A warrior who has vowed not to desert the battle-field.
- ୨. (ନାମ) ନାରାୟଣୀ ସେନା ବିଶେଷ —୨. Name of an invincible army of Bishṇu (which is bound by vow not of flee from the battle-field.)
- ୩. ବଛା ପ୍ରଧାନ ଯୋଦ୍ଧା (ଯେଉଁ— ମାନେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ଭୂମିରେ ଜୟୀ ବା ନିହତ ହେବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ଦୃଢ଼ ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞ) —୩. 'Forlorn-hope'; picked or chosen soldiers (those who have vowed to win or die.)
- ୪. ଯୁଦ୍ଧଭୂମିରୁ ପଳାଇବାକୁ ଉଦ୍ୟତ ଯୋଦ୍ଧାଙ୍କୁ ପଳାଇବାକୁ ଛାଡି ନଦେବା ପାଇଁ ରଖାଯାଇଥିବା ଯୋଦ୍ଧା —୪. A warrior kept in the battle- field to prevent the flight of others. (Apte).
- ୫. ସହଯୋଦ୍ଧା —୫. A brother in arms. (Apte).
- ୬. ଅନ୍ୟକୁ ହତ୍ୟା କରିବାପାଇଁ ଶପଥ କରିଥିବା ଷଡ଼ଯନ୍ତ୍ରକାରୀ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି —୬. A conspirator who has taken an oath to kill another. (Apte).
